Overestimation Of Radiation Exposure Results In Avoidance Of Vital Screening

These women’s were provided with five benchmarks for providing     approximate logarithmic scale with the value of a mammogram at the center (0.4mSv). As per the survey, “Women overestimated the radiation risk associated with mammography.”

Jacqueline Hollada, a member of the University of California Los Angeles research team states that,
"Our findings indicate a need to educate patients about the amount of radiation they are exposed to during a single screening mammogram.” The Cancer Center at Wise Regional also agrees with the point of Dr. Pat Basu, faculty radiologist at Stanford University and co-author of the study that, “We need to be sure not to over-scan people, but not forget the tremendous benefits from screenings; they can save lives and make medical care cheaper.”
