ST. LOUIS - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- The department of Theatre at the University of Missouri-St. Louis presents In the Red and Brown Water by Tarell Alvin Mcraney, October 9-12th.  The play is set in mythical San Pere, Louisiana and loosely draws on West African myths. The story is of Oya, a track star who must make difficult choices on her journey to womanhood.

This production is directed by Assistant Professor of theatre Jacqueline Thompson, choreographed by Andrea Peoples, and musically directed by Weedie Bramiah. In The Red and Brown Water is sure to make audience members reflect on their own lives and the importance of seizing the moment.

“I was drawn to this story because it speaks the truth about exploring and taking opportunities that may propel us to higher levels in life.  My students are often faced with crossroads decisions regarding career paths, graduation and life choices. This play reveals how imperative it is to release fear and chase after your dreams aggressively and unapologetically”, states Thompson.

Tarell Alvin Mcraney is a brilliant, young playwright whose work is layered with complexities and nuisances that are breath-taking to watch as this journey unfolds. This will be the first production of his work in St. Louis.

The show will be held at the Touhill Performing Arts Center-Lee Theatre. Admission is $10 for the general public and $5 for students with their I.D.  For more information, please contact Lindsey Walker at 314-443-7599 or lindsey@lynnprmentality.com
