Sept. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- President Barack Obama postponed the expected announcement through executive authority to alleviate the immigration crisis after the November elections.

The president had promised to take action before the end of the summer, but the White House came under pressure from U.S lawmakers from his own party to postpone the announcement acquiescing to Democrats’ fears that such a move would damage their prospects for maintaining control of the U.S. Senate in November.

A White House official, who was not authorized to speak on the record, said, “The reality the president has had to weigh is that we’re in the midst of the political season, and because of the Republicans’ extreme politicization of this issue, the president believes it would be harmful to the policy itself and to the long-term prospects for comprehensive immigration reform to announce administrative action before the elections.”

The democrats risk losing the majority in the Senate, which they now dominate, but their chances of retaining control are far better than it was previously thought.
