High School Students to Receive Dogecoin for Competing in Esports Tournament This Fall

Sept. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- High School Students to Receive Dogecoin for Competing in Esports Tournament This Fall

Kansas City, Missouri - September 10, 2014 – Coinplay.io— a PC-game distribution startup—and High School Esports League (HSEL)—a rapidly growing esports league for high schoolers—have partnered to create Doge4eSports—a Dogecoin funding initiative that awards students Dogecoin for competing in HSEL’s fall season League of Legends esports tournament.

“Partnering with HSEL just makes a lot of sense,” said Shane Park, co-founder and CEO of Coinplay.io. “As a digital currency enthusiast and gamer, I felt strongly that HSEL’s fall season would be a great platform to promote esports and Dogecoin. With the backing of some really great sponsors, we’ve secured over 10 million Dogecoin and unique prizes.”

“Doge4eSports has been a great success thus far,” said Ian Higgs, one of three co-founders of HSEL. “Coinplay.io’s strong connections in the Dogecoin community have allowed us to raise over double the amount of our original funding goal, as well as pick up a full roster of sponsors. We’re excited to see how the distribution of Dogecoin to high school students will pan out after the season is over.”

Five of the ten million Dogecoin raised will be disbursed to all participating students in the league. The remaining Dogecoin will be awarded to the tournament victors. All distributions will be held in escrow by Moolah.io—Doge4eSports biggest sponsor and major player in digital currency payment processors.

“We’re happy to help the campaign,” said Alex Green, CEO of Moolah.io. “Being involved with Doge4eSports allows us to support emerging startups, promote adoption of digital currencies and be part of a fun, social experiment.”

According to Moolah.io’s website, 6,312 merchant accounts with the ability to accept Dogecoin are registered today. The fall season tournament ends with distributions made to all participating students in Doge4eSports, and the distribution of over 10 million Dogecoin could have an interesting impact on the less than year old digital currency.

“This fall, MIT is distributing Bitcoin to all undergrads worth half a million in US dollars,” said Park. “We see distributions from Doge4eSports as junior varsity to MIT’s varsity. I think both experiments will have interesting results.”

Signups for HSEL’s fall season are open till September 13, 2014, and high school students in North America are encouraged to join. The fall season begins September 20, 2014, and matches will be played every Saturday till November 15, 2014. Featured matches will be streamed on Twitch on HSEL’s Twitch stream.
