Sept. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Play is in everything that a little one touches, a simple fork becomes an aeroplane, a walk across the kitchen becomes a field of horse jumps, we are transported, by our unfettered imagination, directly into a forest of Goblin’s when a simple clothes line is put up.  Here at Babys we are all for encouraging children to use their wild imagination.  Children are free spirits and have not yet learnt boundaries or the need to get things done in a certain timeframe, however there is one thing that they will engage with immediately – PLAY TIME.

My weekend was just peppered with moments of this ‘childhood innocence’ with nieces and nephews using the cardboard boxes from a recent move to build a castle – oh classic.  When kindly encouraged to remove their ‘fort’ from the bathtub so their baby sister could have a bath, we were given looks of confusion, gasps and body language (mainly throwing themselves on the floor) that suggested their life just wasn’t worth living!)

If you think about it - the majority of the first three years of a child’s life is spent in very close proximity to their parents and as you expose them to new experiences, rules and requests you are opening up a massive world to them!  Everyday gives them new sounds, faces, smells and situations.  As frustrating as it can be when the bath tub is home to a medieval king and a fire breathing dragon, pretending to be a monster, a fairy, role-playing, or imagining going on a trip - all help to develop not only their verbal and communication skills but also their problem solving skills when they are faced with a new experience.  Pretending helps them in imaging pathways for their future and to be any body they want to be!
