See The Change USA Announces New Member to the Board of Directors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sept. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- See The Change USA, the 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization committed to student advancement in Science & Engineering by bringing age appropriate physics to middle schools of America, recently elected a new member to serve on the organization’s national board.

At the See The Change USA quarterly meeting, Chairman Jim Johnson welcomed the newest board member Andre D. Spencer, Ed.D. Superintendent of Harrison School District 2.

Jim Johnson, Chairman and President & CEO of GE Johnson Construction Company said, “We are honored that Dr. Andre Spencer is joining the Board of See the Change USA.  His expertise with the direction of education will be of tremendous value as See The Change USA continues its mission to reach all middle schools with our physics curriculum.”

Dr. Spencer is a lifelong educator and strongly believes that education is the key to lifelong success. As Superintendent of Harrison School District 2 in Colorado Springs, CO he serves over 11,000 students with 25 schools, including four charter agreements.  Prior to Harrison, Dr. Spencer was the Regional Superintendent with the Houston Independent School District and served over 15,000 of the 205,000 students by overseeing the instructional programs, budgets, capital improvements, instructional technology enhancements and extra-curricular activities.   Dr. Spencer supervised and coached campus administrators to increase student achievement.  He is an educational leader who strongly believes that all children deserve a quality education that will enable them to become productive learners within society.  Furthermore, he believes that it is critical for all schools to promote a culture of good teaching and learning that is led by a highly competent leader with effective teachers.

Dr. Spencer has also served 4 years in the United States Army and worked in the Baltimore City Public School System for 13 years as a Science Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Area Support Superintendent.    Spencer’s other recent accomplishments are training for National Superintendent Certification with AASA: The School Superintendents Association and presenting at the National Alliance of Black School Educators Aspiring Superintendents Institute.  He also serves on the board for the Boys & Girls Club of the Pikes Peak Region, Joint Initiatives, Colorado Springs Homeless Initiative and Pikes Peak Community College Foundation.  Dr. Spencer currently holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore; a Master of Science degree in Biology from Morgan State University, Doctoral Fellowship in Science Education from Morgan State University and a Doctor of Education degree from Capella University.
