NEW YORK - Sept. 8, 2014 - PRLog -- NEW YORK – The Forum on Law, Culture & Society (http://www.forumonlawcultureandsociety.org/) launches its new fall season of programming with the Trials & Error series on Wednesday, Sept. 10, by hosting the Real “Wolf of Wall Street.”

Jordan Belfort, whose lavish lifestyle and the financial crimes he committed as a market manipulator inspired the Oscar-nominated movie The Wolf of Wall Street, will talk about his life.Joining him will be former federal prosecutor Daniel R. Alonso, who handled the Belfort case, and Kelly Evans, co-anchor of Closing Bell on CNBC. The conversation will be led by Thane Rosenbaum (http://www.forumonlawcultureandsociety.org/about/leadership/), the longtime director of the Forum.

Trials & Error focuses on high-profile legal cases that have captured the attention of the general public and media and often raise moral and ethical questions of whether justice was truly served.

“The Belfort case is particularly timely given the aftermath of the great recession and the widespread belief that those who took advantage of the public markets, and who fooled investors and homeowners, were not made to pay for the consequences of their crimes," said Mr. Rosenbaum

Tickets are on sale now for the Real “Wolf of Wall Street” event at the 92nd Street Y at http://www.92y.org/Event/The-Real-Wolf-of-Wall-Street.aspx. The event also will be simulcast to select audiences across the nation. Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit is available to practicing attorneys.

The Forum also hosts an annual Film Festival, which combines a well-known movie about the law and human rights with a special post-screening guest. The 2014 Film Festival so far includes:

·         Oct. 21 – Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer discussing the contemporary relevance of the classic Jimmy Stewart Western, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

·         Oct. 22 – Human rights activist and screenwriter Ayaan Hirsi Ali discussing her film Submission, whose director was murdered 10 years ago for making a film that called attention to the violence committed against women under strict Islamic laws. She will be joined by Wall Street Journal columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Bret Stephens.

·         Oct. 25 – A screening of Zero Dark Thirty, the movie about the discovery and assassination of Osama bin Laden, with former Attorney General Michael Mukasey and former New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

·         Oct. 26 – Michael Connelly, author of the book on which the movie, The Lincoln Lawyer, is based, and actress Margarita Levieva, who co-starred in the film.

The Forum on Law, Culture & Society relocated to New York University School of Law this summer after nine years at Fordham Law School. The Forum on Law, Culture & Society is committed to providing a unique, engaging, and entertaining experience for both a public and online audience by examining the big ideas of the day, including matters of law, justice, human rights, and civil society, and by bringing together influential artists, government leaders, and public intellectuals in a dynamic setting that is spirited, enriching, and alive.
