By: Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant Raval Luxury Indian Restaurant – named best in the North East at British Curry Awards – opened its doors out of hours for former Fine Young Cannibals frontman Roland Gift and his band. And the Birmingham-born singer – who knows a thing or two about curries – declared Raval’s cuisine among the best he had ever tasted at home or abroad. Eighties pop icon Roland and his entourage visited Raval ahead of an appearance at Gateshead’s Sage Music Centre. He thrilled a packed auditorium with hits including Good Thing, She Drives Me Crazy, Johnny Come Home and Suspicious Minds, as well as new material. Raval manager Avi Malik said: “I received a call from the band’s agent asking if I would be able to accommodate them. “Normally we are closed on Sunday but I was more than happy to oblige and was delighted that Roland and the band enjoyed their food so much. “He was very complimentary about his meal. One of his band members was so impressed he asked if he could visit our kitchens to see the chefs at work next time he is in the region… and, of course, I agreed.” Fine Young Cannibals’ music career took off in 1985 after they appeared on Newcastle-based music show The Tube. Their 1989 album The Raw and the Cooked topped the UK and US album charts. End
