By: Karen I. Hirsch Photography The "Front & Center" exhibit runs through January 4, 2015 in the Kanter-McCormick Gallery and Gallery 5. Tricia Van Eck, founder of 6018North art center, is the curator of this exhibition. Karen I. Hirsch will be presenting multiple works under the umbrella title of "Works in Progress." She will be displaying a series of abstract photos of arrangements of the white Geofoam blocks being used to construct the landscape of the new Maggie Daley park in downtown Chicago. She will also be displaying a series of abstract photographic compositions of paint-splattered surfaces in the room where she took a painting class at the Hyde Park Art Center. In October, Hirsch will have a solo exhibit in the Bridgeport Coffeehouse located under the same roof as the Hyde Park Art Center. This exhibit, titled "River Ice," consists of metal prints of abstract compositions of ice formations in the Chicago River during the frigid winter of 2014. Hirsch used digital technology to blend her original photos of organic ice formations with colors, textures and other images to create these works. Hirsch's participation in the exhibits at the Hyde Park Art Center is supported in part by the Illinois Arts Council. Karen I. Hirsch is an international award-winning visual artist based in Chicago. Her commercial, editorial and fine art work have been published internationally in magazines, newspapers and books including Communication Arts and Graphis photo annuals. Her fine art work is found in corporate and private collections. End
