Beyond the Photograph, an exhibition of artwork by Don Sichler and Roslyn Rose, will be open to the public from September 11 to October 5, 2014 at hob’art gallery, Monroe Art Center, 720 Monroe Street, Hoboken. Mr. Sichler zooms in on the minutiae of everyday life and Ms. Rose steps back to see the broader picture.  A reception to meet the exhibitors will be held on Thursday, September 11th, 6-8pm

. On Sunday, September 21 at 3:30pm, during another reception, the artists will talk about their artwork and welcome questions from visitors. Gallery hours are Thursday to Sunday, 1 to 5pm and by appointment. The artists thank the Monroe Art Center and the hob'art gallery for their support of this exhibition.

Carol Squiers, curator at the International Center for Photography, suggested in her book, “What is Photography,” that it is unclear where the medium of photography is headed, but she is certain that contemporary photographers are doing things that are disorienting, yet ultimately transformative. Roslyn Rose photographs and collects images of interiors and exterior facades exposing the space behind doors and windows to reveal new images. She combines reality with unreality and insists upon the validity of the merger. Two of Ms. Rose's digitally manipulated reinterpretations of original photographs are collaborations with Photographer, Ann Kinney. Don Sichler’s pictures reveal the details of our surroundings that most people fail to notice. These images are intriguing abstractions that blur the source of their original inspirations. His camera records images created by shadows, light, reflections and colors that occur for only a fleeting moment in time.

Gallery information can be obtained on the website www.hob-art.org and from the Director, France Garrido, 201-319-1504 or director@hob-art.org. Free parking is available at the rear of the building on Jackson Street with new entrance at left end of parking lot.
