Poll Shows It's Not Too Late for Independent in Lt. Governor's Race!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Sept. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- A recent poll conducted by Neighbors of Arkansas using the firm Voice Broadcasting of Dallas, Texas reveals that Arkansas voters are not strongly committed to any candidate in the Lt. Governor's race, and a new candidate in the race could still garner significant support.   Neighbors of Arkansas, an anti-party group who believes in electing independents to public office, is suing the state of Arkansas for changes in ballot access laws made in 2013 which make it more difficult for independents to make the ballot.  As part of their lawsuit, they are asking that three candidates, including Mark Moore of Pea Ridge in the Lt. Governor's race, be put on the ballot.  The other two candidates are in local races.  The case is being heard by Federal Judge Raymond Moody Jr.

The September 2ndpoll of 588 likely voters from all four congressional districts revealed that only 30% of the voters believed they could name both the Republican and Democratic candidates for Lt. Governor.   Only 47% of the voters felt they were satisfied with their choices for the office, while 53% said they were not satisfied and open to the idea of voting for an independent candidate.

When asked if they would like to see Mark Moore of Pea Ridge specifically on the ballot, 20% of respondents said yes.  Forty-three percent were not sure, leaving a potential majority of voters who would at least like to see Independent Moore placed on the ballot. Considering that over one million ballots were cast in Arkansas 2012 general election, those that want Mark Moore on the Ballot represents over 190,000 votes.    In general, Moore had more support in the first and third congressional districts and less in the second and fourth.

Neighbors of Arkansas is a political organization working to support and elect independent candidates for local and state office in Arkansas.  More information about Neighbors of Arkansas is available at www.arneighbors.org.
