Sept. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- The cause behind the work we’re doing for Coach to Cure MD (CTCMD) has us, well, Windswept.

We’re beyond excited to be a part of the important work Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy is doing to raise awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Don’t know what Duchenne is?

Neither did we, until we created Peel-N-Stick Embroidered pieces for CTCMD’s 2012 campaign. Here's a little of what we've learned:

- The Duchenne gene is found on the X-chromosome, so it primarily affects boys
- Approx. 1 in every 3,500 baby boys are born with Duchenne (about 20,000 new cases each year)
- There is no cure for Duchenne and this 100% fatal disease typically ends the lives of the boys it afflicts before they’re even 30-years-old.
- Duchenne prohibits the development of dystrophin, which cripples a muscle’s ability to repair itself. This causes muscle tissue to harden, leading those who are affected to lose their ability to walk by their early teens. Eventually this muscle damage prevents them from moving, from breathing and their heart from beating.
*Above statistics from www.parentprojectmd.org

So to raise awareness and funds for research that will bring doctors and scientists closer to developing a cure, on September 25-27, 2014 more than 11,000 AFCA coaches and their teams will wear the Coach to Cure MD logo on their uniform sleeves and will talk about the CTCMD cause during media interviews.

Windswept Marketing thinks it’s pretty powerful stuff and would love it if you joined us in supporting the cause -- it’s as easy as sending a text.

Texting the word “CURE” to 90999 will give $5 to the CTCMD, and will add that amount to your next phone bill. You can also encourage research for Duchenne by donating at www.coachtocuremd.org.

You can learn more about the CTCMD initiative at www.coachtocuremd.org and about Duchenne at www.parentprojectmd.org.
