Follow on Google News | CATM New York officially welcomes Michael MurphenkoAfter the successful and much publicized acquisition of Murphenko's "Family" by Ron Slimp, former diplomat, trade negotiator, and image guru, now Managing Partner of TDI International, at the Forbes Ukraine Gala, Murphenko sets his eyes on NYC.
By: Shriftman Media Among the clamoring oligarchs of Ukraine sit the "Family" in their kitchen confidential where the vestigial mechanics of the Soviet Union slowly grind down to their inevitable halt. These vestiges of clandestine politics refuse submission and continue in dark corners, quietly disrupting victorious independence, blinded to fate. At the Forbes Ukraine exhibition, which was held in conjunction with the publisher's annual top 100 businessmen issue, Victor Pinchuk stood entranced as rivals pined. Wondering and inspired, as if standing before the Oracle of Delphi, he sought answers, straining to make sense within a dreamlike Stokerian fog. The "Family" held strong, refusing the advances of definition and narrative constraint. Former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Kostyantyn Gryshchenko , once said of Murphenko's work, "Not one of the many visitors I had at the Ambassador's Residences during my service, nor to the Minister's Office, would fail to pay attention to Murphenko's art in the room...His work always makes an impact on my counterparts, compelling many to discuss the art. Somehow they become more open to dialogue, perhaps even inclined to look at the issues from a different angle, and this, of course, helps achieve the true purpose of the diplomatic reception or meeting." Such praise affirms Murphenko's success in situ and validates Pinchuk's ideology, as quoted from The New Yorker, that "It is more important to listen to artists than to politicians. I think that Art is really one of the revolutionary forces in the world." Slimp said of Murphenko's "Family" (Andriy Verersky, Dmytro Firtash, Rinat Akhmetov, Ihor Kolomoyskiy, Serhiy Kurchenko, Kostyantin Zhevago) that the portrayal of the 'oligarchs' was most accurate, 'showing not only physical likeness, but also individual psychological traits of each.' The painting was recently delivered to the Washington, D.C. Headquarters of TDI International after Forbes' yearlong schedule of exhibitions. End
