Charlotte Center City Partners Wins Multiple Awards at International Downtown Association Annual Conference in Ottawa

CCCP President & CEO tapped as new Chair for the international organization
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Sept. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- (Ottawa, ON Canada) – Today during its 60th Anniversary Conference and Tradeshow, the International Downtown Association (IDA) recognized Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) with three of its most prestigious awards: a Downtown Pinnacle Award for the Uptown Charlotte Land Swap, and IDA Merit Awards for the Historic South End brand campaign and the 2013 Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Washington, D.C.-based IDA is a champion for vital and livable urban centers and strives to inform, influence, and inspire downtown leaders and advocates. CCCP President and CEO Michael Smith will take the helm as Chair of the IDA Board of Directors for 2014-2015.

Downtown Pinnacle Award: Uptown Charlotte Land Swap

CCCP orchestrated the Land Swap beginning in 2005 under the leadership of President & CEO, Michael Smith. The Land Swap was developed as a strategic method to redevelop two downtown neighborhoods, Second Ward and Third Ward. It included private and public sector involvement in an effort to transform large tracts of underutilized and underperforming land into new tax-generating developments with well-designed, appropriately located new public parks and facilities. The project resulted in the construction of both Romare Bearden Park and the BB&T Ballpark, and catalyzed redevelopment in the surrounding areas.

“The Land Swap has helped to write a new chapter for our city with a focus on creating affordable housing, inexpensive family-friendly entertainment, economic development, generating infill development on under-utilized blocks and creating first class urban green spaces,” Smith said. “We are grateful to the International Downtown Association for recognizing that this type of strategic thinking and execution is happening in Charlotte. The results are incredible.”

IDA Merit Award: Historic South End Brand Campaign

Charlotte Center City Partners launched a rebranding and marketing campaign for the Historic South End district centered on the idea that the area is literally and figuratively “The Edge of Town.” The campaign contributed to growth of the district in many areas within the past year, and included a digital and social media campaign that continues to build. Since the launch of the campaign, more than 40 new businesses moved into the district and residential development continues to explode.

IDA Merit Award: 2013 Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade

This decades-old parade announced its cancelation at the beginning of August 2013. Just a short three weeks later, Novant Health signed on as the title and partnered with Charlotte Center City Partners to produce the event, ensuring the tradition would continue. With less than 90 days to produce the parade, Charlotte Center City Partners worked tirelessly to make the parade a success.

“These projects and programs by Charlotte Center City Partners each demonstrate excellence in downtown management,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO. “Each year the IDA Awards Jury honors the very best programs and projects in each category to recognize great work and most importantly to set the standard for best practice in our industry.”

Charlotte Center City Partners is the advocacy and management organization representing the interests of property owners in downtown Charlotte and is a member of the International Downtown Association.
