Beyond the Virtual Classroom – Grantham University Faculty Spends Day at Hope Leadership Academy

“Life Changers” gardened with second graders while discussing importance of oxygen and its effects on learning.

LENEXA, Kan. - Sept. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- When teaching at the college level, educators get used to addressing topics in a certain way. Recently, several members of the academics team at Grantham University spent the day educating a different kind of student – second graders at Hope Leadership Academy (http://hlakc.org/about-us/).

In order to support the academy’s mission of providing “a world-class neighborhood school whose students thrive in a culture of academic excellence, character development and caring relationships,” the Grantham Life Changers brought in clay pots to decorate and seedlings to plant with students. While doing these activities, they also explained the importance of plants and how they not only impact the beauty of our surroundings, but our daily life through the production of oxygen – without which we would not be able to learn and grow.

“Spending the day with Hope Leadership Academy was a great way to give back to Kansas City. We believe passionately in both the learning process and being good members of the community through service, so being able to share our love of learning with the students at the academy was the perfect way to spend the day,” said Dr. Niccole Buckley, dean of Grantham’s Mark Skousen School of Business.
