By: PCCW Global The collaboration will provide PCCW Global additional access to the strong developing economies of Angola and Zambia. The move will also see Paratus Telecom’s Ethernet, voice and IP VPN coverage extended via PCCW Global’s resilient MPLS/IPX network, which reaches over 3,000 cities in more than 130 countries. At the same time, Paratus will benefit from PCCW Global’s direct ownership in the major undersea West African Cable System (WACS). The interconnection agreement for HD voice and data services will boost general business development in Africa, a significant market for both parties. Paratus Telecom has offices in Namibia, coupled with regional operations in Angola and Zambia, and is now able to offer services to about 40 nations on the African continent, thanks to this new interconnect arrangement with PCCW Global. Mr. John D’Alton, Paratus Telecom’s Managing Director, said, “This collaboration is an important milestone in the development of our international business, especially for international data and voice services. It will extend coverage of our services beyond Namibia to the rest of the world and vice versa. This relationship further benefits the countries in which we operate, where international carrier products are already showing a trend of higher capacity at lower cost.” He added, “We have also concluded a voice interconnection agreement, which now extends international coverage for our voice platform, thereby enhancing the power of our 083 national prefix number in Namibia. This benefits voice service end-users, while leveraging the cost advantages of working with a global telecommunications carrier such as PCCW Global.” In fact, Paratus Telecom’s voice platform will soon be extended into Angola and Zambia, providing direct local access in these countries. Mr. James Welch, PCCW Global’s Vice President and Head of Sales of EEMEA, said, “This agreement is a critical element of our wider African development plans, building as it does on our many years spent connecting Africa and becoming the pan-African service provider of choice. Voice and data interconnection with Paratus Telecom extends the connectivity we provide into Namibia. In particular, it provides additional routes whereby our MPLS customers can have additional access resilience to Namibia, Angola and Zambia, as well as the rest of Africa, and in doing so we will continue to be focused on providing high quality service.” He added, “This collaborative working relationship with Paratus Telecom will be beneficial to our customers, as it will ensure that service levels associated with connecting to Namibia and neighboring countries will be further enhanced and consistently maintained.” End
