In June 2014, Health Canada announced a Regulatory Initiative to amend the Consumer Products Containing Lead (Contact with Mouth) Regulations (SOR/2010-273) (1). The aim of the proposed regulatory amendment is to develop regulations to restrict lead content to no more than 90 mg/kg in consumer products intended for use by a child or an adult in caring for a child. The proposed scope of products is:

- Childcare articles

- Clothing and accessories for children under 14 years old

- Products intended for play and learning for children aged 3-13

Canadians will have the opportunity to provide additional input during the Canada Gazette, Part 1 public comment period, which is expected to take place during the Fall of 2014 and will last 75 days.
