Passion for Food in a Whole New Light with Exciting Fall Class Offerings

Sept. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- WHAT: Brian Samuels, acclaimed editorial photographer and creator of A Thought for Food blog, is bringing his talents to the BCAE gallery this fall. On Friday, September 19th, 2014 from 6:00-8:00PM the opening reception will welcome 50 of Samuels prints featuring the beauty of food. With a passion for cooking and expertise in photography, Samuels work is truly unmatched and has been featured in publications such as The Wall Street Journal and The Boston Globe. Food enthusiasts and the general public alike are invited to experience this unique take on food, free of charge, Monday – Friday from 9:00AM-6:00PM.

Aside from recognition in notable publications, Brian Samuels has made his mark in the social media world. His blog A Thought For Food, a popular showcase of recipes and personal anecdotes, along with his twitter account, have gained a fair share of followers over the year. Budding photographers are offered the opportunity to work with Samuels first-hand in an exclusive “Farmers Market Photography” class. On Sunday, October 5th, 2014 from 9:30AM-12:30PM, students should pack up their digital cameras or cell phones for an on-foot excursion through the SOWA Farmer’s market led by Samuels, the expert food photographer himself.  During this tour, Samuels will share tips about how to take great shots and find unique subjects in the farmer’s market.

Chef Michael Scelfo from Alden & Harlow in Harvard Square will also bring his passion for photography to the BCAE this fall.  On Tuesday, September 9th, 2014 from 6:00PM-9:00PM, Scelfo will host the “Edible Exposure: Food and Photography” class where guests will learn how to create perfect food for photography right on their phone. After teaming up with Chef Scelfo to make (and eat) three dishes, guests will have the chance to learn about fun “food photography” apps and the best angles and filters needed to produce unique pictures!

In addition, on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014 from 6:30PM-8:00PM a talented panel of bloggers will host the class and discussion “Food Blogging: Basics and Beyond.” This session will cover the basics of blogging and explore all of the essential tips and tricks to creating a successful blog, followed by a Q&A Sections. Panelists include Melanie Feehan who writes A Beautiful Bite (abeautifulbite.com); Bianca Garcia who writes Confessions of a Chocoholic (confessionsofachocoholic.com); and Debbie Grubstein who writes A Little Bit About a Lot of Things (dgrubs.com).
