Costco to Host Book Signing for Local Prescott, AZ Authors

Eric Conrad Jackson and Rod Timanus will be available to sign copies of pictorial histories

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Sept. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Founded in 1885, the Prescott Fire Department began with four 25-man volunteer companies, the Dudes, the Toughs, the Mechanics Hook & Ladders, and the O.K.s. These 100 men reflected both the common man and the leaders of the region. Over the years, their numbers would include governors-to-be F.A. Tritle and Thomas Campbell, business leaders H.D. Aitken and A.A. “Tony” Johns, and numerous members of the Goldwater family. The department and its community survived the great fire of July 14, 1900, as well as the loss of 19 of its own Granite Mountain Hotshots on June 30, 2013. The Prescott Fire Department would go from a volunteer department to a fully paid department of 80 firefighters, operating out of five stations and covering an area of 40 square miles.

Eric Conrad Jackson is a 12-year veteran of Prescott Fire Department, with 20 years fighting wildland fires and 30 years in the Prescott community. Jackson has spent the past decade scanning old department slides and photographs into digital form. Sharlot Hall Historical Society and Prescott Antique Auto Club were instrumental in providing insight into the earliest years of the department.

The mysterious cliff dwelling known as Montezuma Castle has overlooked Arizona’s Verde Valley for over 900 years. Originally thought to have been built by the ancient Aztecs, later research proved it to be the handiwork of a long-vanished people named the Sinagua. They inhabited the site for over three centuries and then simply walked away to be lost in the mists of time. In this volume, the author traces the history of Montezuma Castle through its construction, abandonment, later discovery, and the diligent efforts of many individuals and organizations to restore and preserve it for future generations. In 1906, Montezuma Castle was designated one of the country’s first national monuments by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt.

Author and illustrator Rod Timanus writes extensively about the history of the American West. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, the Arizona Historical Society, and the Alamo Society.
