For those in the mood for crazy situations, physical comedy, and lightning fast wit, it’s the right frame of mind to enjoy Noises Off
. Pants fall, double-entendres fly, and the improbable ensues. This popular farce by Michael Frayn follows the onstage and offstage antics of a dysfunctional troupe of actors as they stumble through their final dress rehearsal, all the way to the tumultuous closing night of their low budget production of “Nothing On.” In Act 1, puns, jokes, and verbal spars fly. As the cast of the play-within-
the play attempts to polish a delightfully nutty dress rehearsal, the offstage noises of their personal lives intrude, adding yet another layer of hilarity. Act 2 is a carefully choreographed ballet of chaos. Situations, props, personalities, and various plants collide, both literally and figuratively. By Act 3, surely the actors have their lines down and relationships ironed out so everything doesn’t come crashing down…but the burning questions remain: Where’s the next whiskey bottle going to pop up? What did
happen to those sardines? And Bag! Bag? Bag! The very last thing any theatre company wants to happen is the very thing the audience will find so entertaining in Noises Off
. Missed cues, slamming doors, and broken backstage romances give a sneak peek into what it is really like on the other side of the curtain. Deemed one of the funniest plays ever written about the theatre, Noises Off
will leave the audience rolling in the aisles. The cast for Noises Off
includes Robert Armstrong as Frederick/Philip, Richard Blaney as Tim, Rebecca Bronzini as Poppy, Jim Corsica as Selsdon/Burglar, James Duggan as Garry/Roger, Kristin Cassidy as Belinda/Flavia, Bonnie Knapp as Dotty/Mrs. Clackett, Ricci Prioletti as Brooke/Vicki, and Larry Utterback as Lloyd.
