Follow on Google News | July sees medal rush for BodyHQ athleteThe month of July has been a successful one for one of BodyHQ’s sponsored athletes. 16-year old 400m sprinter Matthew Pagan has bagged himself a hat-trick of medals at major national and international competitions during the month.
By: BodyHQ First up for the talented West Cheshire AC star was a silver medal at the English Schools’ championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, where he also ran a new personal best of 48.85s. He then followed this up with a bronze medal in the individual 400m at the SIAB international schools’ event in Cardiff a week later before anchoring the England 4x400m relay to team gold ahead of the Scottish, Welsh and Irish teams at the same event. Matthew, who also studies at the Chester Catholic High School, has been sponsored by Chester-based gym BodyHQ, which is headquartered at Evans Easy Space in the city and owned by Chris Chan, where he has been receiving free specialist conditioning work in addition to his track training which he does three times a week. “Training with Chris and his team at BodyHQ has made me stronger and more flexible, which is really useful in my races,” said Matthew. “We have a training plan that we follow which complements my track work and the benefits are really starting to show now. July was a great month in terms of medals won and I hope the rest of the season will go as well as there are a few major championships left which I’m competing in.” Chris said: “I’m really pleased to be able to support Matthew with his athletics help him achieve his ambitions. Training him is a real pleasure and I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings together.” As well as being a strength and conditioning coach, Chris is a fully-qualified personal trainer who has studied with many of the world’s leading fitness, health and nutrition experts. Chris will be running a series of boot camps in August where the cost is £1 for the first session. To find out more about BodyHQ, see www.bodyhq.co.uk .
