PRLog - Sep. 1, 2014 - SAN FRANCISCO -- Visage Medspa & Facial Plastic Surgery, a top cosmetic surgery center providing San Francisco rhytidectomy (http://visage-sf.com/), is proud to announce an informative blog post on the meaning of 'rhytidectomy' vs. 'facelift.'

"Many people are confused about the word rhytidectomy," explained Dr. Alex Rabinovich, owner and senior surgeon at Visage Lift Center in San Francisco. "In essence, facelift and rhytidectomy mean exactly the same thing. So whether a patient is looking for a San Francisco Rhytidectomy or a San Francisco Facelift, we can help."

More on the Word Rhytidectomy

"'Rhytidectomy' is derived from the Greek and comes from the Greek word rhytis, which simply means wrinkle. Ectomy is also Greek (ektome) and means excision, or cutting out, or away. The word 'ectomy' is used in much medical parlance such as 'appendectomy' which is simply removal of the appendix." "So rhytidectomy means removing wrinkles, and is otherwise known as a facelift." Of course, a facelift does not necessarily mean just removing wrinkles, although that is what many celebrities wish to achieve, in the knowledge that keeping youthful looks will help to prevent them from slipping out of the public eye, and will thus assist in keeping their incomes up to the level that they would like.

It can also include things such as a rhinoplasty - altering the shape of the nose - changing the shape of the eyes, increasing the size of the lips, and more. An experienced plastic surgeon, or maxillofacial surgeon, can produce pretty much anything that the patient desires. For example, very recently a young man spent $100,000 having his face altered to look like Justin Bieber. "A facelift is usually done for cosmetic reasons", said Dr Rabinovich, "and may differ from reconstructive surgery in that the second procedure is often carried out as a requirement after, for instance, an automobile accident. Damage to the face can make a patient feel very insecure about his or her looks, and can lead to serious emotional and psychological problems. Reconstructive surgery can make a considerable difference to the individual's quality of life."

The Visage Medspa And Facial Plastic Surgery Center has an office in Sacramento Street in San Francisco and provides services to residents in the Bay area and beyond. Procedures undertaken by Dr Rabinovich and his team include facelifts, "nose jobs" (rhinoplasty), eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), and facial laser resurfacing. Treatments for thinning hair for both men and women are also available.
