SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Aug. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- College grads, those 21-24 years of age  with a Bachelor’s Degree, have been facing the highest unemployment and underemployment rate ever. The Economic Policy Institute records unemployment at 8.5%. The norm is 3.3%. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York found that roughly 44 percent of recent graduates—meaning those ages 22 to 27 with a Bachelor’s or higher—were underemployed in minimum wage jobs. Underemployment is working a job that did not technically demand a bachelor’s degree.

Any Bachelor degree, once, guaranteed a management job in corporate America, but not any more. Employers are looking for employees who have skills to expand mechanization - the process of computerizing job functions. Every industry is going through this process. MIT Technology Review reports an Oxford research study that 45 percent of America’s occupations will be automated within the next 20 years. Computers will start replacing people in transportation/logistics, production labor, administrative support, services, sales, and construction. Every student, even if they are college bound, must have skills related to automation.

Uplift, Inc. is hosting Automation Workz,  a career exploration workshop that exposes 9th - 12th graders and their parents to a fully functioning automated factory and the new advanced manufacturing jobs that do not require a Bachelor’s Degree. Families will participate in a series of interactive invention/ technology/ robotic exhibits where they will generate points. The top three families to generate the most points will win prizes.

Ensure your child has the skills to a high paying job. Come learn at Automation Workz to be hosted at the Comau Innovation Campus,   Saturday, September 6, 2014 from  2 pm  - 5 pm.
