But do eBook publishers appreciate the increasing need for higher quality in eBooks? Is the message that the traditional printed work does not simply translate to an eBook, without loss of quality, hitting home with publishers?
Joseph Gilbert, partner and Chief Creative Officer with Visualist Publishing, LLC, doesn't seem to think so. In a recent interview with EContent Magazine's Erik Martin, Gilbert shared his expert insight stating "The best way that [eBook] publishers and content providers can improve the quality of their eBooks is to stop trying to recreate print books as eBooks and start embracing the formats, technology and additional audience engagement opportunities that are possible with eBooks".
Gilbert's focus in his conclusion stems from his review of a recent survey published by Digital Book World (DBW) which addresses a lone eBook industry concern: Production Quality. According to the survey, "publishers are still concerned about eBook production quality" citing such facts as "of the survey's respondents, 84 percent are planning to publish digitally in 2014 (an increase of 21 percent over the prior year), and 52 percent of respondents said quality of digital conversion was the aspect of greatest concern".
