Simultaneous Interpretation is on the Rise

OAKLAND, Calif. - Sept. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- First were 2 Japanese interpreters and a chat monitor for Oracle’s webcast of the FY15 Global Partner Kickoff for Oracle’s Partner Network where more than 3,000 attendees tuned in from around the world!

8 language teams interpreted a Worldwide Conference for AirBnB. Two interpreters per language had to start work at 6am for worldwide meetings. French, German, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Korean, Japanese and Mandarin interpreters went live over the internet to viewers around the world.

8-hour Portuguese to Spanish video conference interpretation in the Peninsula for Oracle. It is always a challenge when the source language is not English.

It was a very tight week in San Francisco as many other corporate events were scheduled in the Bay Area at the same time. Local resources were overwhelmed because conference interpretation requires two interpreters in each language.

“I feel like I turned up rocks to look for qualified people” said Wahesha Rutherford, International Contact’s chief recruiter. “I can’t remember when we last had so many large events at one time!”

International Contact was forced to turn to a reputed bigger supplier of interpreters in Los Angeles, who assured them they had a reliable, plentiful source of professionals. Unfortunately, at the last minute, they failed to meet their obligation in two languages but IC’s crack recruitment team was able to bring appropriate people in from Northern California.

“We had to pull in favors from 31 years in business,” said Carla Itzkowich, Executive Director, “But now that it is done successfully, we can count on several new vendors, so it was worth it!”
