Aug. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- KENT, Wash. - August, 27, 2014 – Diamondback Bicycles (http://www.diamondback.com/) has just released a limited edition track frame, the Vails, to commemorate the 30thanniversary of Nelson Vails’ Olympic Silver Medal, won during the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles for the 1000-meter Match Sprint.

Nelson Vails, born October 13th, 1960 in Harlem, New York was a professional cyclist from 1988 to 1995 and was the first African-American cyclist to win an Olympic medal. In addition to his Olympic podium, Vails, also known as “The Cheetah” had an impressive career including:

·       Three US National Track Championship titles in the Tandem Sprint Division

·       A Tandem Sprint World Championship title in the Tandem Sprint Division

·       A US National Tack Championship Title in the Individual Sprint division

·       First place Individual Sprint finish at the Pan American Games.

Vails previously rode for Raleigh Bicycles, a fellow Accell North American Brand, and has teamed up with Diamondback to help support their move into competitive road cycling and their partnership with Team Optum presented by Kelly Benefits.

“This frame has been 30 years in the making and I have been so happy to work along-side Diamondback Bicycles and be a part of its creation,” said Vails. “This bike will be a great way to remember such a life changing event for me and I hope it will also encourage others to get into the sport.”

The Vails Track Frame features a full carbon monocoque chassis with 50mm horizontal drop outs and an integrated chain tensioners. A tapered head tube provides incredible front end control and stiffness while the robust, oversized bottom bracket and chainstays create a stiff power transfer zone. The Vails is stiff and fast.

To further celebrate this momentous occasion, Diamondback athlete Dana Walton will attempt to break the 12.149-second world record for the Women’s Master 200-meter sprint time trail on the Diamondback Vail. This will be taking place on August 29th at 7:30 p.m. at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.
