Changing the Landscape Campaign surpasses $250,000 goal for student scholarships

Nineteen rooms and areas named in new student union, including the Capital BlueCross Theatre

Aug. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Less than four months after the public announcement of the first phase of its Changing the Landscape Campaign for Scholarships, the Central Penn College Education Foundation has surpassed its $250,000 fundraising goal, raising a total of $271,000. The first phase of the campaign focused directly on naming opportunities within The Underground, a new student union currently under renovation and construction on the Summerdale campus.

All contributed funds will go directly to student scholarship support through the Education Foundation. Also, all donors pledging $2,500 and more will be recognized for their generosity on a lobby plaque.

“I am amazed by, and extremely grateful to, those who have pledged their support for student scholarships through the Changing the Landscape Campaign,” says Central Penn College Education Foundation Executive Director Matt Lane. “The generosity of these individuals, businesses and foundations will live for many years to come on the walls of this new campus addition, and will help current Central Penn students reach their educational goals.”

On Wednesday, Aug. 28, donors had the opportunity to be the first to see the new space as part of a hard hat tour. The Underground is slated to open for student use in September, with a grand opening planned for donors, alumni and community members on January 15, 2015. The theatre, sponsored by Capital BlueCross, will hold performances and shows that will be open to the community.

“We are thrilled to support the Changing the Landscape scholarship campaign and are particularly excited that Central Penn College is naming the campus theatre after Capital BlueCross,” says Dave Skerpon, vice president of strategic growth and community relations at Capital BlueCross.  “It is important that our partnerships provide an opportunity to improve the health and education of the community. The ability to enlighten students and other theatre attendees, while calming the mind and healing the body through performances, makes this a perfect fit for us.”

JDK Group CEO Jen Delaye, Central Penn College Education Foundation trustee and chair of the campaign, was instrumental in garnering support for this campaign for scholarships.

“I can’t think of a better cause than scholarship funding of Central Penn students,” says Delaye. “It’s a no brainer. The college does all the right things to prepare students for successful careers.”

With 92.4 percent of Central Penn’s current student body requiring some form of financial aid to stay enrolled, the education foundation is thankful for the many faculty and staff, community partners and graduates who continue to support this most worthy cause.*

“This is the type of help that Tremendous Life Books believes in,” says company president Tracey Jones. “Supporting scholarships and helping those who need tutoring are a powerful combination.”

Jones and her mother Gloria were among the first to support the Changing the Landscape Campaign by sponsoring the Writing and Learning Center.

The second phase of the Changing the Landscape Campaign will focus on naming opportunities within the college’s soon-to-be completed Health Sciences Building, located on the west side of campus along Valley Road. The building will feature new state-of-the-art educational labs and facilities for Central Penn’s allied health students, including medical labs, classrooms, faculty offices, conference area, student lounge and a computer lab. Like the rest of campus, this building will feature wireless Internet access to enhance student learning.
