Diversity in the workplace has received a lot of attention this summer as tech giants made their diversity numbers public. Companies like Linked In, Google, Facebook and Apple admitted that they are missing the mark when hiring a diverse workforce, but also pointed to the lack of qualified female and minority candidates as a systemic cause. The September 24th event addresses this issue. Mosaic Blueprint is the proven leader in Diversity Recruiting and Consulting and is working not only to create more understanding of current diversity issues and trends, but to prepare future generations to be prepared for careers in STEM. Their programs have received national attention from NPR, the Rockefeller Foundation and The White House.

“We approach diversity issues on a continuum. Companies need to build practices into the fabric of their daily activities and values in order to attract diverse candidates. ” Says Deena Pierott, Founder of Mosaic Blueprint.

The day will begin with a morning symposium for employers to discuss and learn about current issues of diversity in the workplace, "Making Invisible Barriers Visible" and includes local diversity officers from Multnomah County, United Way, Planned Parenthood and Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare. Then, in the afternoon, more than 500 jobseekers are expected to attend the career expo, specifically, local diversity candidates in the Oregon and Washington.

Companies confirmed to attend the event include; Multnomah County as the Champion Sponsor, Portland Development Commission, Portland General Electric, Oregon Department of Education, Oregon Health Authority, Jama Software, Instrument, Cambia Health, Legacy, United Parcel Service, Willamette Development Officers Association, Oregon Public Broadcasting, City of Vancouver, Governor’s Office – State of Oregon, HDR Engineering, Bureau of Land Management, Pacific Power, REACH, United Way, Cascadia Behavioural Healthcare, Metro and Reed College.

A large portion of net proceeds from this event will be donated to iUrban Teen, a local non-profit program designed to expose teenagers of diverse backgrounds to careers in the STEM sectors. The program is just one solution to take us into the future with a more prepared workforce.
