Follow on Google News | You're U.S. debuts "At Home with America" at The Center for Contemporary ArtBedminster, NJ, Sunday, September 5th, 6-8PM, at The Center For Contemporary Art, 2020 Burnt Mills Rd, NJ 07921. Multimedia cohort You’re U.S. kicks off At Home With America, a nationally touring exhibit exploring lives of 30 contemporary Americans. Seemingly standard classical portraits and biographies spring to life with the scan of a smartphone, revealing secret radio portraits scored with original compositions. Throughout the seven week show You’re U.S. will be partnering with local middles schools, holding demonstrations from radio making to portrait painting, and offering weekly opportunities to record oral histories. For four years the itinerant painter Emile B Klein has cycled into the inner sanctum of strangers lives, learning about a country you won’t find on the news. These creations, exploring subjects such as religion, race, fame, and environment, were created in collaboration with dozens of American writers, composers, and radio producers. Hear a children’s choir sing odes to a Virginian nun, see the Hmong North Carolinian painted in the style of Delacroix, or read about a former gangster with a love for educational metrics. Each story walks the line between the personal and the foreign, exploring America’s cross-cultural harmony.
