PRLog - Aug. 26, 2014 - OTTAWA, Ontario -- On September 18-19, the ‘Living the 6 Steps’ Cancer Wellness Retreat held at the Nordik Nature Spa will teach men and women currently battling cancer how to encourage their own recovery through powerful integrative health strategies. Host of the retreat, Michelle Thibodeau of Nu Healings Nutrition, is a Certified Professional Cancer Coach & Holistic Nutritionist who sees a gap in both the conventional and integrative cancer treatment options available to patients in Ottawa.

“Medical cancer care is not a sole system for treatment and recovery,” says Michelle. “What’s lacking is more awareness around integrative therapies that can help patients get the best results from their conventional cancer treatments, such as radiation, chemotherapy and surgery. The endorsement and promotion of integrative therapies from doctors and oncologists is not there.”
In speaking with a number of cancer patients in Ottawa, Michelle found that most either have low awareness about integrative cancer treatment options, or they have trouble affording the full scope of integrative therapies that would be effective in helping them fight their disease.
Through the ‘Living the 6 Steps’ Cancer Wellness Retreat, Michelle’s goal is to empower cancer patients to be proactive about their recovery through an accessible 2-day workshop in a rejuvenating spa setting. The retreat will address the perilous components that cancer patients face both during their journey and after remission. Topics include: Cancer Nutrition, Environmental Links to Cancer, Vitamins and Supplementation, Relaxation Therapies, and more.
Michelle has experienced first-hand our traditional medical cancer care system twice in her own lifetime; once with her husband, a firefighter, who died from brain cancer in 2006; then again with her son’s melanoma diagnosis. Living through both experiences, Michelle witnessed the powers and limitations of our medical cancer care system. Determined to help her loved ones and others afflicted by cancer, she got her training as a Certified Professional Cancer Coach with the National Association of Professional Cancer Coaches (NAPCC). The NAPCC trains health practitioners in evidence-based cancer prevention and recovery programs.
