What the Heck is "Arborgeddon"?

SAN DIEGO - Aug. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- "Arborgeddon" is an appropriate term coined for this year's annual PTCA seminar and field day event.  As the doom and gloom name implies, the effects of the ongoing severe drought throughout the state of California and the west is having a devastating effect on our trees.  As muncipalities continue to cut back on water and raise rates, consumers are responding by reducing their outdoor irrigation, and in many cases, turning off water to lawn areas, much to the detriment of their trees.

This years seminar included many high powered speakers from academia, government and private industry who discussed several important topics pertaining to tree, soils, insects and the effects of drought.  Politics were left at the door, this was all about learning about the current facts and effects of an enduring drought and declining trees.

Topics were varied, including a simplified landscape irrigation demand estimation technique to address the minimum supplemental water required to replenish water lost through a tree's evapo-transpiration by Dr. Roger Kjelgren, Professor at Utah State University.  Dr. Linda Chalker-Scott discussedhow to treat and avoid drought stress in landscape trees, others discussed water supply, planning for future restrictions, and tree insects.
