TOMORROW: 50TH ANNIVERSARY FREEDOM SUMMER AND THE CIVIL RIGHTS ACT OF 1964 COMMEMORATION WITH SPECIAL GUESTS U.S. SENATORS MARK BEGICH AND CORY BOOKER AT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

ANCHORAGE, AK -
The Alaska Black Leadership Conference will host

Tell The Story: A Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of Freedom Summer and the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Tuesday August 26 at the Mountain View Boys and Girls Club (7pm-8:30pm).

This is a nonpartisan event. All candidates and elected officials are invited.

50 years ago in Mississippi 3 brave civil rights activists, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner, were killed while working to register poor, disenfranchised African Americans, to vote. There deaths sparked off a broad and diverse movement to ensure that the right to vote would be protected for every American regardless of race or class. They literally died for our right to vote! This is an important community event that both celebrates the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer and provides an opportunity for voter education concerning the important issues facing the community in the upcoming elections.
