LANSING, Mich. - Aug. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- For many people, Labor Day marks the end of summer vacations and the last holiday weekend before the start of autumn.  It was created to celebrate the social and economic achievements of the American worker and is an annual tribute to their contributions to the strength and prosperity of the nation.

According to the United States Department of Labor, “The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worker.”

In recognition of the American workforce, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene® thanks all those that continue to provide services and products for the nation.  ABIH® also celebrates the dedicated individuals from the industrial hygiene community who work to protect and enhance the health, safety and environment of people at work and in their communities.

“Since 1960, when ABIH was established and began administering the Certified Industrial Hygienist® (CIH®) program, CIHs have been instrumental in protecting workers in the United States and across the globe,” said Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH.  “ABIH would like to recognize the achievements of the thousands of CIHs working in the public and private sectors who are on the frontline in protecting workers’ health, reducing injuries and helping to ensure that the workplace and local communities have a safe and healthy environment.”
