ATLANTA - Aug. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America’s leading energy consulting firms, recently released The Energy Industry Update (http://www.scottmadden.com/insight/773/the-scottmadden-energy-industry-update-august-2014.html). This semi-annual publication features ScottMadden’s view of recent significant events and emerging trends in the industry and is received by more than 10,000 industry leaders.

Themed “I Feel the Earth Move under My Feet,” this Update examines a broad array of strategic issues, including:

- An overview of EPA’s proposed existing source performance standards for CO2 emissions from power plants and what they portend for the power generation industry
- Ongoing developments in gas pipeline infrastructure to accommodate new sources and potential demand for that commodity
- Continued development of renewable energy resources and how utilities have achieved differing levels of maturity in incorporating management and development of those resources into their normal course of business
- A look at New York’s “Reforming the Energy Vision” initiative and what it means for the industry

“Environmental and other regulations, gas and power infrastructure constraints, a shifting power generation mix, continued penetration of distributed generation, competition in transmission development, and continued low natural gas prices, among other things, are causing a tectonic shift in the utility and energy industries,” said Greg Litra, partner and energy, clean tech, and sustainability research lead at ScottMadden. “The earth is moving, so to speak, but like many such shifts, it happens over time. The next year or two should find utilities and regulators continuing to adapt their approaches to business and regulatory constructs to these changes while trying to ensure reliability, security, and reasonable prices. ScottMadden continues to help clients gauge those movements in the business environment and identify and navigate the fault lines.”

For more than a decade, the ScottMadden Energy Industry Update has served as a catalyst for strategic discussion, debate, and decisions. Thousands of industry leaders rely on it for the most important trends and thought-provoking insights.
