One Amazon reviewer says: ‘If you’ve read any of Tom Clancy’s work and feel like you need something new, this is it. ‘The Seed’ is unique because of the fast-paced action, rich characters, unique settings, and the enticing geopolitical intrigue with amazingly realistic details.’
What makes ‘The Seed’ a must-read is the fact that it is much more than an entertaining political thriller. It is a satire that draws the readers’ attention to the political and social situation they are in today, because the world Jon McDonald creates in his novel is very similar to ours. Things haven’t gone so bad yet, but they might if we are not aware of what is happening now in politics, and we don’t intervene to change the things that don’t seem right.
Diego is the president’s son and a dedicated activist. He finds out that his father conspired with the CEO of a major oil company and the dictator of Venezuela to ensure his election, and he decides to expose him. The idea was to manipulate the oil markets and cause high gas prices, but things didn’t go as planned for the ones involved. However, Diego’s action leads to something more dangerous than he expected. He has to survive several murder attempts by the big oil CEO, and the US itself is threatened with nuclear missiles by the dictator of Venezuela, who has invaded neighboring countries to take their oil. Both Diego and his father are trying to take control of the situation, but things are not in their favor.
Jon McDonald’s fans already know they should expect complex and intriguing characters they will inevitably root for. The author is great when it comes to character-development because he gives his heroes and villains both good and bad qualities. This makes them act naturally and unexpectedly, which adds to the suspense and makes readers turn the pages as fast as possible to find out what happens next.
