Follow on Google News | Heywood Hospital Wraps Up Summer Volunteer ProgramBy: Heywood Healthcare The annual summer program brings high school and college students in to the hospital to work in various areas at the Gardner campus. This summer, 40 high school and 10 college students participated in the program. High schools represented include Gardner High, Monty Tech Regional Vocational High School, Narragansett Regional High School, Oakmont Regional High School, Oakmont Regional Middle School, Quabbin Regional High School, Quabbin Regional Middle School, Worcester Academy, Westboro High School, The Winchendon School, Murdock High School, Mahar Regional High School and Bancroft School. Additionally, colleges represented were University of the Sciences in Pennsylvania, Franklin Pierce University, New Hampshire; University of St. Joseph, Connecticut; Students participating in the program donated their time to over 30 departments including Cardiac Rehab, Cardio Pulmonary Services, Clinical Engineering, Emergency Department, Food Service, Information Desk, Gift Shop, Human Resources, Laboratory, Materials Management, Medical Records, Nutrition, OBS/Maternity, Oncology/Special Procedures, Surgical Services, Pharmacy, Radiology & Mammography, PT/Rehab Center, Surgical Day Care, Transport and the Wound Care Center. Junior Volunteers assisted with everything from clerical duties, computer projects and bulletin boards, to escorting our patients, delivering supplies; changing beds & stretchers to observing various medical procedures. During this 8-week summer program, these great student volunteers donated over 1500 hours of their time to Heywood Hospital. “We had such a wonderful, dedicated group of young people willing to give up some of their summer time to volunteer at Heywood.
