Students engage in extensive equine therapy in order to build a rapport with animals, their fellow students and instructors. Not only does equine therapy empower young adults by teaching them to place trust in others, it also enhances their coordination, core muscle strength and spiritual well being. Though many don't realize it, horseback riding improves one's posture, balance, spatial awareness and even self confidence.
Christ Central's Got It Made Ranch also offers a variety of opportunities for students beyond equine therapy to develop skills that will help to build their resumes and make them quality candidates for future employment. Students learn a plethora of “real world” skills with an intensive IT education, lessons on Microsoft networking skills (including a certification from Microsoft), automotive maintenance, barn management, construction and animal care.
The Ranch's faculty and administrators like Jan White aim to place each student on what is commonly called a “track”. The ranch helps to equip young adults with the emotional and social maturity that is necessary to succeed through a post-secondary education and beyond. White and her team surround students with contemporary technologies and teach them life skills that will help them move along their tracks to become productive adults with a passion for serving both Christ and their communities.
Jan White point outs that the time and effort invested in teaching students the ins and outs of information technology and commonly used Microsoft software has tangible results. Christ Central has helped several graduates of the program obtain employment with tech industry stalwarts like Microsoft.
