World Champions Duke it out in the Dickinson Championship Bull Riding Horizon Series

DICKINSON, N.D. - Aug. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Although fresh faces and young stars added a jolt to the first CBR Horizon Series as the 2014-15 season kicked off in Dickinson, North Dakota, someone forgot to tell two of the reigning CBR champs that the season started over.

Riding with the confidence that won both Sage Kimzey, Strong City, Oklahoma, and Kritter Lamb, Whitehorse, South Dakota, the top two honors of the 2014 CBR season, Kimzey and Lamb would finish first and second in the 2nd Annual Dielco Crane Championship Bull Riding in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Kimzey, who clinched the CBR World Champ title in July in Cheyenne, Wyoming at Cheyenne Frontier Days, looked rested and ready after recently taking time off to heal a slight groin injury.  Kimzey rode the Grinch, owned by Ramblin Verl Ranch of Stephenville, Texas, for 88.75 points in the long round, inching past Lamb, the 2014 Horizon Series Champion, by .75 points who was 88 points on Dakota Rodeo’s 855 Super Cella.

By posting the highest score in the earlier rounds, Kimzey was awarded the opportunity to get on the Rockpile Energy Bounty Bull to attempt to win $5,000 for eight seconds of work.  Kimzey would lose his rope in the attempt and the bull, Continental rock, owned by Chad Berger, would win the battle, but Kimzey and Lamb would get a jump on the competition gathering valuable qualifying points that will position them at the top of the list on the CBR’s televised Road to Cheyenne tour.

Eight of 34 bull riders made qualified rides in the muddy DSU Outdoor arena which accumulated over six inches of rain in 24 hours. $10,720.00 was awarded to six cowboys with Kimzey and Lamb receiving the bulk of the lion’s share.  With their strong finish in Dickinson both bull riders are well on their way to continuing their winning streaks into the 2015 Championship Bull Riding season.

Not rain, rain and more rain would keep Zach Craig, the organizer of the 2^nd Annual Dielco Crane Championship Bull Riding, from continuing what he set out to do for the citizens of Stark County. Bringing in bull riding’s royalty, four time world champion bull rider Tuff Hedeman, Two World Champion bucking bulls, 188 Got It and 33-8 Rajun JT,  and two World Champion riders, the two hour event featured 2 rounds of top notch bull riding action with Tate Smith of Litchville, being the only North Dakota rider to finish in the money.

Two Dickinson State University Rodeo Team members, Blake Smith from Zap and Teddi Schwagler, Mandan, were presented $1500 scholarships from Hedeman during intermission on behalf of CBR and Barrett and Craig Bucking Bulls. Earlier in the day, Hedeman and Kimzey signed autographs, talked to the media, and took pictures with fans at Boot Barn and Runnings Fleet and Farm.

In addition to the riders competing for cash and trophy buckles some of the best bucking bovines on the pro tours provided the other side of the ride in Dickinson.  Competing using the CBR’s Bull Team Challenge competition format, the 12 teams each comprised of three bulls competed simultaneously to the rider’s competition for cash and prizes with Matt Griffin’s Ramblin Verl Ranch team winning the first place $12,000 cash prize.
