New Secure Semi Truck Parking Lot Looks To Reduce Crime In Stockton

The increased use of the Marine Highway connecting Stockton and Oakland brings many benefits to the area, but the dark-side is an increase in area crime. A new secure drop yard seeks to deter thieves from the area.

STOCKTON, Calif. - Aug. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Last year the Marine Highway, a container on barge service that will link Stockton to the San Francisco Bay.  The new system is intended to reduce truck travel between Stockton and the Bay Area, wear-and-tear on highways and bridges, fuel consumption by shipping cargo via barge rather than semi truck, green house gases through reduced diesel emissions from trucks, and improve public safety by reducing semi truck traffic.

The numerous benefits to Northern California from the Marine Highway are significant.  However, Stockton is set to experience a real negative impact as a result.

The increase in the flow of freight through Stockton will bring an increase in the number of semi trucks destined to the city.

The increased number of semi trucks on local roads and in existing rest areas is not the problem.  The problem comes from the increase in freight related crime that occurs in unsecure parking lots and rest areas.  An old saying in the trucking business is “cargo at rest is cargo at risk.”  Put plainly cargo sitting in parked semi trucks attracts thieves.

The problem of freight related crime is becoming larger and larger as crime rates and the use of violence in crimes increases.  Increasing crime rates and unsecured parking areas also affect road safety, since truck drivers need to be able to comply with the required driving and resting times.

Fleet Yards Inc. (http://www.fleetyardsinc.com) is opening a new high-tech secured truck parking lot and drop yard in Stockton at 2733 S Airport Way to combat the problem and reduce the negative effect the increase in semi trucks in Stockton may have.  The secure parking lot will be guarded 24 hours a day and include high definition CCTV camera monitored offsite for added security.  Other security features will be used but company representatives did not want to disclose them citing security risks.

Company representatives of Fleet Yards say that the new Stockton secure drop yard will use the most modern anti-theft tools to deter criminal groups that focus on truck freight.  They say there is concern that organized theft rings active in the Northern California area will be attracted down into Stockton thinking the new yards will be easier targets.  Dan Otting, president of Fleet Yards stated,  “We want the thieves to know that stealing in Stockton will get them caught.  So don’t even bother trying.”

Fleet Yards believes that by taking security seriously from the start Stockton will enjoy the economic benefits of the new Marine Highway without experiencing the associated crime and safety issues commonly experienced in the Bay Area.  The new Stockton secure parking lot opens September 15, 2014.  For more information on the secure trailer parking lot and drop yard in Stockton contact Fleet Yards toll free at (877) 240-7275 or visit their corporate website at http://www.fleetyardsinc.com
