CARDIFF, Wales - Aug. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- Invacare’s Technical Services Department have just finished supporting the Commonwealth Games Medical facilities team providing a wheelchair repair and maintenance service throughout the Games. The team carried out over 70 repairs for competitors from all over the Commonwealth and worked in conjunction with the University of Strathclyde, who repaired competitor’s prosthetics, and Westmarc, one of Invacare’s largest customers, who provided vital local support.

The Repair and Maintenance team were based in the competitor’s village within the medical facility and also provided support at Hampden Park during the disabled athletics competition days. Invacare’s team carried an impressive amount of servicing, which included repairs to chairs with wooden wheels, and rolled up carpet used as inner tubes, which were two of the easier jobs completed. Brian Davies, Invacare’s lead technician and his team gave technical advice on several product issues to competing teams.

Brian commented: ‘’It was a great experience working with so many athletes in such a great atmosphere. No one day was ever the same with some very unusual repairs to try and complete. Some of the competitor’s chairs from Africa in particular, required a lot of work on arrival in Glasgow, but we worked quickly to order spare parts and complete the repairs ahead of the competition days.  It was very satisfying to then watch them race round the track at Hampden Park.’’
