Second phase of church to attract youth

HOUSTON - Aug. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- The Youth Worship space for Mims Baptist Church, designed by Studio RED Architects, is complete and ready for worship services. Completed as the second phase of a larger master plan and construction project for the church, the youth worship facility fills a much desired need to support their growing youth ministry.

How it all started

In 2010, Studio Red assisted the long range planning committee at Mims Baptist Church in identifying ministry, programmatic and aesthetic goals for future expansion of their facilities and campus. Mims Baptist Church has a rich history in the Conroe area, beginning with a small congregation in 1933 and growing to a vibrant conservative Baptist church with great impact in the community for the past 81 years. The master plan and multi-phase construction project by Studio RED is the first significant project undertaken by the church in the last 15 years. The first phase was a 38,900 sf children's building for the church which was completed in October 2013. The building featured educational classrooms, administrative offices and a 600 seat multi-functional banquet hall.

A second phase and a new chapter

Lead by Studio RED Principal, Micah Simecek, the 8,500 sf renovation project included the demolition of a 20,000 sf education wing that was underutilized and in diminishing condition. The demolition made way for additional parking and a new second floor entry to the existing Fellowship building. The new facility features a youth worship room with a capacity to seat up to 120 students, a lounge and gaming area for recreation, three re-purposed classrooms and finish upgrades in eight existing classrooms which will support education for young adults grades 7 to 12. The space will also accommodate audio, visual and lighting for a contemporary worship style. "This project utilizes the great bones of their existing building to the church's advantage," said Simecek, "Creating a unique aesthetic that engages the young adult segment of their congregation." The youth ministry is now ready to use their new facility and start worshiping in an exciting space with a warm environment.
