Webinar Improving Flocculation for Better Biomass Separation

A new METTLER TOLEDO on-demand webinar explores the optimization of flocculation using in situ Process Analytical Technology.

GREIFENSEE, Switzerland - Aug. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- A new METTLER TOLEDO on-demand webinar explores the optimization of flocculation using in situ Process Analytical Technology (PAT) and its relationship to faster and more cost-effective biomass separation in pharmaceutical and chemical research and manufacturing.

METTLER TOLEDO is pleased to announce the launch of a new, free on-demand webinar entitled "Flocculation in Bioseparations." The presentation looks at the role of flocculation in the recovery and purification of monoclonal antibodies through direct experiments and case studies. Presented examples show how in situ technologies such as Focused Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) can help optimize flocculation for easier, more effective downstream processing.

Flocculation of cells and cell debris has emerged as a useful pre-treatment for clarification of cell culture separation. However, as cell densities increase in the hunt for higher-producing titers, the result is often more impurities and broader size distributions which negatively impact cell viability and downstream processing.

In situ PAT is giving researchers and manufacturers a continuous view on the flocculation process to help them improve efficiency and create higher-recovery yields, even for high-density solid-liquid separations. This data flow quickly creates a graphical process overview that can help with optimization and scale-up of these sensitive processes and eliminate offline sampling's time delay and potential for inaccuracies.

In doing so, the webinar shows examples of how in situ PAT helps researchers choose the most appropriate flocculation parameters to support efficient and cost-effective biomass separation.
