RALEIGH, N.C. - Aug. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- (Raleigh, NC) – Local “Beyond Driving with Dignity” Professional Lauren Watral will be offering free help to adult children who have become worried about mom or dad’s driving.  Watral is now offering Keeping Us Safe’s “Adults with Aging parent Drivers” presentation to community and service groups, area agencies on aging, assisted and independent living facilities, libraries and medical facilities, etc. throughout the greater Raleigh area.

The 1-hour presentation is designed to help concerned families address the issue of age-related diminished driving skills with their loved-one.  This national program, developed by a retired Ohio State Trooper, helps the family bring a peaceful resolution to what can be a very sensitive and emotional family issue.

“Safety is always paramount when addressing the issue of a driving retirement with a loved-one” Watral explains, “Often inadvertently overlooked, but immediately behind the safety issue is the importance of helping a parent maintain their pride, dignity and independence through what can be a very difficult transition.”

Matt Gurwell, founder of Keeping Us Safe, explains that “The very name of our program, “Beyond Driving with Dignity”, reminds all of us of the importance of not only providing a path to a driving retirement, but also reiterates the importance of allowing the individual to maintain his or her dignity and independence through the process.”

Amongst other topics, the presentation discusses such issues as:

·         Understanding and appreciating the older driver’s perspective

·         Warning signs of age-related diminished driving skills

·         The importance memory plays in driving

·         When and how the conversations should start

·         The importance of basing decisions on facts and not on opinion, emotion or speculation

The presentation also includes real-life stories and examples of driving retirement success stories.  A copy of Keeping Us Safe’s “Family Driving Agreement” is provided to all attendees.  The presentation is available, free of charge, to both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
