ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Aug. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- On Friday September 19, the St. Paul Abbott’s will be filled with Disney Magic, as local music students gather to perform Disney songs in a special showcase event. The performers are attendees of the Rochester Academy of Music & Arts-- Western New York’s largest privately-owned music school. The Academy has partnered with Abbott’s, who will be hosting the event, featuring costumed characters, photo opportunities, frozen custard, and more. The showcase will take place at 6:30 pm, and is free and open to the public. Attendees are welcome to wear Disney-themed costumes to the event.

Rochester, Please Be Our Guest

The idea for a Disney-themed concert began with Academy teacher Katie Fisher. According to Fisher, “I was looking for something new and exciting to do with my students this summer, when I had the idea of utilizing the music of Disney. Summer is a time for fun, and Disney songs fit the bill, while still providing students the challenge of applying the fundamentals they’ve learned thus far.”

When Academy events coordinator Brigid Harrigan heard Fisher’s idea, she decided to run with it, contacting Abbott’s and securing a venue. “I felt that Katie’s idea had the potential to be a wonderful event not just for the Academy, but for the Rochester community. We love supporting the arts, and Abbott’s was very excited to be able to showcase local talent.”

A Whole New World, Where Education Meets Fun

Because the Academy grows larger every summer, it was a unique challenge to find a theme that would fit an ever-increasing number of students. “Our reasoning behind the theme is pretty simple,” explains Harrigan. “Disney, much like music itself, is a kind of universal language. Students of all ages and backgrounds will be performing at the event. But no matter your age or upbringing, we all have a favorite Disney film.” Harrigan continues, “Students were encouraged to make their own song selections for the event—to choose the songs that really speak to them as individuals. At the Academy, we always encourage students to work with music they love, and this event is a perfect showcase for that philosophy.”
