SAN DIEGO - Aug. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- (Holland, MI) Environment Resources Management (ERM) announced today that ERM Partner Phil La Duke will speak at the 2014 National Safety Council Congress & Expo – the world’s largest annual event regarding environment, health, and safety. It will take place this year in San Diego, CA.

La Duke is slated to speak on Tuesday, September 16, from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The technical session, which is based on an article that La Duke penned for Fabricating & Metalworking Magazine (September 20, 2013), will explore the relationship between good housekeeping practices and worker safety.

“This topic is surprisingly important to safety professionals,” says La Duke. “On the face of it, housekeeping doesn’t sound critical, but when you consider process safety, exposure to risks, and health risks associated with poor housekeeping, you realize that housekeeping affects a wide range of risks.”

This is La Duke’s ninth trip to the podium at the National Safety Council’s Annual Expo. Previous topics include selling safety to top executives, social networking, and culture change.

"Housekeeping is an important tool for making the workplace safer” Says La Duke, “it’s an inexpensive, easy, and most importantly effective way to make the facility a safer and more pleasant place to work.  Too often, organizations push back because they believe that their industry is intrinsically dirty; which obviously isn’t true.”

La Duke’s brash, aggressive style has brought him an international following and has drawn praise from the safety media. “I like to shake things up and get people – especially safety professionals – to really examine their beliefs. Whenever we challenge our beliefs we learn something, at least that’s been my experience,” says La Duke.
