CHICAGO - Aug. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- (CHICAGO) -- The Chicago State University Foundation (CSUF) Board of Directors will host their 20th Anniversary Award and Scholarship Fundraiser Concert on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. The theme of the Gala is "Still in the Business of Transforming Lives."This milestone anniversary event will include recognition of Willard S. Evans, Jr., president of Peoples Gas, stand-up performance by comedian James Stephens III and a concert featuring the legendary R&B group The Whispers. Funds raised at this event will support CSU students pursuing their educational goals. The event begins with a reception at 6:00 p.m., dinner and program at 7:00 p.m. and concert at 8:00 p.m. followed by an ‘after party’ hosted by CSU alum and R&B recording artist Adam Emil at 10 p.m.

As it has for the past 20 years, the Annual “Friends of CSU Award and Scholarship Fundraiser” is the CSU Foundation’s major fundraising event with proceeds providing scholarships, technology enhancements and general support for Chicago State University. Approximately 6,200 students attend Chicago State University, with 95% of these students receiving some form of financial aid.

“The CSU Foundation has been transforming the lives of CSU students by financially supporting their educational dreams and allowing them to attain the tools for life long success,” said Maurice Grant, chair of the CSU Foundation Board. “As we contemplate this milestone anniversary we remain focused on helping even more CSU students attain their educational goals.”

“I am keenly aware of the opportunities that an education affords in attaining career
success,” said Evans who rose through the ranks at Peoples Gas to become president after starting out as a summer engineering intern. “The CSU Foundation is helping young people succeed and I’m honored that they’ve chosen to recognize me as part of their 20th anniversary.”
