NYLCV Endorses Tim Kennedy For State Senate

A strong record and vision for a greener future for Western New York

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Aug. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- NEW YORK --- The New York League of Conservation Voters, which works to make environmental sustainability a top political and policy priority in New York State, has announced its endorsement of Tim Kennedy for the New York State Senate in District 63.

Since taking office in 2011, Senator Kennedy has made a healthy environment a key part of his agenda. Most recently, he has been working to clean up Scajaquada Creek, urging the Department of Environmental Conservation to partner with Cheektowaga and Buffalo to take steps forward. Kennedy was a leading voice fighting to extend and improve the Brownfield Cleanup Program, which creates jobs while cleaning up industrial contamination. He has worked with the Clean Air Coalition to demand thorough investigations of air quality in the neighborhoods near the Peace Bridge, while also developing a strategy to attract clean-tech industries to his district. Senator Kennedy recently sponsored legislation to make roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists, as well as a bill to establish an urban open space program to acquire and preserve open spaces in low-income communities.

If re-elected, Kennedy has pledged to continue fighting for clean air, cleanup and reuse of contaminated lands and to adopt legislation that will get toxic chemicals out of children's toys and products.

"Tim Kennedy has been an active voice in fighting for environmental justice in Western New York," said Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters. "From clean energy to waterfront revitalization, he has made the environment a high priority in Albany. We are proud to endorse him for re-election and we encourage voters who care about a cleaner, greener Western New York to support him at the polls."

"I'm proud and honored to have earned the support of the New York League of Conservation Voters. In the years ahead, I'll remain committed to fighting for a greater, greener New York State, starting in Buffalo and Western New York," said Senator Tim Kennedy. "In Western New York, we understand that restoring our environment presents us with our path toward a stronger, more vibrant future. That's why we've long fought to protect and improve our lakes and waterways and clean up contaminated and vacant industrial lands. The work we've done here has helped foster a growing waterfront economy and encouraged the development of renewable energy. With our new waterfront, the exciting RiverBend project and other ongoing developments, Buffalo is on the move toward becoming an epicenter for clean energy and environmental protection, and we're just getting started."
