NEW YORK - Aug. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY — August, 2014  In a June meeting, the person sitting across from Helpusadopt.org founder Becky Fawcett told her “Many don’t believe you really do what you do-—they say it’s too good to be true.” Her response (said with an ear to ear smile): “Believe it. It’s what we do.”

In fact, Helpusadopt.org awarded its June round of grants totaling $150,000 to 16 families: 6 heterosexual married couples, 5 LGBT couples and 5 single women. The organization will award an additional $150,000 in grants this December which will bring the grand total of monies awarded since the organization’s inception, in 2007, to over ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

What started out as a kitchen table idea almost seven years ago in Fawcett’s NYC apartment has blossomed into a thriving national 501(c)(3) non-profit that does one thing: builds families through adoption grants.  Since its launch, Helpusadopt.org has helped to build 107 families across the country by awarding $920,000 in adoption grants. Helpusadopt.org has since outgrown the kitchen table, grown into a Manhattan office space, and now employs four full time staff members. Helpusadopt.org founder (and the 5th employee), Becky Fawcett, serves as the organization’s full time Executive Director on a pro-bono basis.

Fawcett credits Helpusadopt.org’s success with the mission of family and adoption equality and a lot of hard work. “Our doors are open to all, and we support all types of adoption.  We don’t discriminate in any way, shape or form, and we don’t charge an application fee. Our grants are large, life changing amounts of money (up to $15,000) that help to complete the adoption process and put children in homes. In today’s world, this really speaks to people.  This is what makes Helpusadopt.org unique.”

Helpusadopt.org is the only organization of its kind that does not define family, does not charge its applicants to apply, and supports all types of adoption (domestic, international, special needs, LGBT, single parent and foster care), and it will celebrate its Seventh Anniversary in November 2014. Helpusadopt.org grants are awarded regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, marital status or sexual orientation. Helpusadopt.org’s 14th round of grants, expected to total $150,000, will be awarded in December of 2014. The grant application is available at http://www.helpusadopt.org/ and the deadline for submission is October 10th, 2014.
