Follow on Google News | Museum Guide startup announces public launch of the Periplus audio-guide platformOver 20 audio guides for major museums released as free downloads for Smartphone users.
By: Periplus Museum visitors can also expect to save on audio-guide rental costs, which may add up to $10 per day depending on the institution. Periplus guides are free to download and use, and are now available for several major museums, including the British Museum, the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum. “With the Periplus platform, audio guides are no longer big ticket expenses for museums”, said co-founder Gary Low. “Visitors are currently expected to pay an additional fee on top of their admission ticket, to cover the costs of developing and maintaining an audio-guide system. By building their guides on Periplus for free, we hope more museums will explore the use of audio guides and other digital technologies to improve the visitor experience.” The audio guide app is designed especially for tourists, who make up a large percentage of museum visitors worldwide. Individual guides can be downloaded before visiting a museum, and then run off a Smartphone without requiring internet connectivity. Other features of the app are the support for different languages, and the display of the audio transcript for deaf users. The app is currently only available for download from the Google Play Store (search “Periplus”) ABOUT PERIPLUS Periplus is a mobile app development startup headquartered in Singapore.
