KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - Aug. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- King of Prussia, PA, August 19, 2014 – – Devon IT, a leading provider of thin client and VDI hardware and software solutions, today announced the availability of version 7.3 of its VDI Blaster™ software. VDI Blaster comes with the latest version of Devon Terminal Operating System (DeTOS) an awarding winning Linux based thin client operating system and it’s Echo™ Thin Client management software.

“VDI Blaster offers customers a cost-effective option that will help them start or advance their thin client solutions with the most flexible and advanced thin client OS and management suite available,” explained Joe Makoid, President, Devon IT. “This update is a way for customers looking to inexpensively begin or continue advancing their VDI deployment and strategy.”

Devon IT VDI Blaster™ is the most popular software tool that enables a PC to act as a thin client. VDI Blaster™ converts PCs into secure and centrally manageable desktop appliances, enables businesses and organizations of all sizes to realize the benefits of thin client computing, and extends capital investment of PCs. VDI Blaster™ offers the benefits of a thin client at a lower cost than a new device.   VDI Blaster is also orderable as a part of Lenovo’s overall thin client end-to-end solutions with part number 4ZR0D71083.

New Features of VDI Blaster Include:

Background Updates- VDI Blaster 7.3 now uses a read only file system which allows us to keep configuration settings and the VDI Blaster image in separate locations. With this feature you can now keep your configuration settings through an OS update and with the integration into our Echo management server push a new OS update to devices without interrupting an end-user from working.

Citrix Storefront (w/ HDX Realtime)- VDI Blaster 7.3 now includes the Citrix 13 receiver and with it supports Citrix Storefront with the HDX Realtime Optimization pack. Webcam and VoIP applications will now run without the need of usb redirection.

VMware (RTAV) - VDI Blaster 7.3 now supports the use of VMware Horizons Real-Time Audio-Video functionality brought by the Horizon View client. This enables the support of webcams and audio-in and audio-out in Horizon View, without the need to use USB redirection. Analog audio-in devices are also supported!

Cisco AnyConnect VPN- VDI Blaster 7.3 now supports the industry-leading VPN capabilities offered by Cisco. You can now remotely connect the device back into your company’s private network to access internal resources across the globe.

Quad-Monitor Support- In addition to its native dual monitor support, VDI Blaster 7.3 now supports quad monitors from NVidia graphics sources.

Additional features of VDI Blaster 7.3 include includes internal wireless support, updated graphical user interface (GUI), First Boot Wizard and new access clients.

And; when using Devon IT’s Echo management platform, persistence of settings and configurations.

There are many benefits that VDI Blaster™ offers. Once a PC reaches the end of its useful life, VDI Blaster™ provides a simple plug-and-play solution to transform the PC into a thin client, which is still able to run Windows OS and applications. It also allows the PCs to return to their previous state if necessary. It minimizes the risk of switching to a fully virtualized architecture. VDI Blaster™ makes centrally-managed desktops possible, which reduces risk and allows for synchronized system updates. Devon IT VDI Blaster™ will connect thin clients to Microsoft Terminal Services, shared services, and virtual desktops from Citrix XenApp View, Microsoft RDP, and RemoteFX through rResktop, VMware View Horizon View, Virtual Bridges and vWorkspace.

Admins download VDI Blaster™ to old PCs via a USB key or a network install. VDI Blaster™ deploys Devon ITs thin client operating system, DeTOS™, and Devon ITs thin client management software, Echo™ to help IT administrators manage enterprise-wide deployments from a central location. Once VDI Blaster™ is deployed, users can select to boot into their normal Windows operating system or into DeTOS™ or remove Windows.

PCs running VDI Blaster can be managed by Devon IT Echo™ – a universal thin client management software platform. Devon IT Echo™ ties everything together and is compatible with the entire Devon IT software stack. It manages every device running Devon IT VDI Blaster™ software and comes included with each VDI Blaster™ license. Features of Echo™ are thin client system image updates, maintenance and management functionality, including inventory, status, and remote service, as well as profiling, logging, and shadowing.
